The 5ESS telephone switch is a very common digital end office switch used in the US. Developed originally by Western Electric, it's lifetime spans through the Lucent era and into the Nokia era. There are still a large number of 5ESSes in service around the US primarily run by the major LECs as well as a number of smaller LECs.
I do not own a Lucent 5ESS, but I do know a couple people who do. In the summer of 2023, I helped remove a 5ESS for another telephone switching enthusiast. That story is here.
