VCFMW 18 Presentation: A Crash Course on Moving Big Iron

The recording of my presentation is available on Youtube and the presentation with embedded notes is available here in LibreOffice Impress format (odp). The video from the very last slide is the timelapse of me putting the SL-100 together in my garage.

In 2023, I gave a presentation at VCFMW 18 to go over my experiences in moving telephone switches. Before writing the presentation, I had been involved in efforts to move my own SL-100 as well as a 5ESS belonging to another telephone switching enthusiast. Telephone switches are their own special case of equipment, but I figured many of the lessons I learned and experience I had gathered would pertain to other large electronic and computer systems.

The intention of the presentation was to serve as a general guide to help people trying to accomplish similar moves. It would overview tools and equipment, general planning information, and a few useful bits of info I had figured out.

The recording of the presentation is on Youtube hosted on the VCF Midwest channel.

The presentation has my complete notes embedded inside it, and that presentation is available here in LibreOffice Impress format (odp). To view the notes, change LibreOffice to the 'Notes' view by selecting it from the 'View' menu. There's a lot of info in the notes that are NOT in the slides (but should mostly be in the recording of my presentation, linked above). The video from the very last slide is the timelapse of me putting the SL-100 together in my garage.

If there are any questions about the material in the presentation, or something that wasn't answered, feel free to contact me.
