SL-100 Web Log

Dumping All Tables

March 4th, 2023

After I had some fun getting the SL-100 to place calls, I shifted my focus to another matter. The switch had a large amount of equipment and configuration in general that had been input into it that would likely never be used.

In general, all this nonexistent hardware and disused configuration would just end up getting in my way as I poked at the switch for my own purposes. For one thing, the switch was in constant alarm looking for hardware that it would never see again. The goal, then, was to strip the switch down to as minimal of a state as could be reasonably managed and then build the configuration back up.

The first piece, though, was to get an understanding of the tables and their contents before I could begin. It would be a good idea to start with a list of the tables and also to dump their contents so I could refer back to them without needing to have the switch powered up.

Referring to the DMS-100 Family Quick Reference Guide, I found the FINDTAB command which allows the user to find tables by inputting a partial name to receive a list. Normally, you're supposed to use this with a few characters of the start of a name, like using FINDTAB ACD to find tables that start with ACD, but you can also use the command with just a single character. By using FINDTAB with one alphanumeric character at a time, I was able to get a listing of all tables on the switch by just running and logging the output from 36 invocations of FINDTAB.

From there, I was able to go into each table and list the entire contents to the best of my abilit at the time. Later on, I went back in and dumped the contents of various subtables too, which I had done improperly the first time around. I'm also aware of a data integrity issue or two that prevented me from dumping at least one table properly.

The data may not be entirely complete, but that's why I have disk images in case I ever want to go back to the state it was in from the university. In any case, the tables are here. Non-empty tables are in their own file to make them easy to find. Some empty tables are just in tables-unsort, and the list of tables is in tablelist.
